On the road again & What we’ve been up to!

Hey friends! We are officially back on the road after 3 long months stationary in Texas. We spontaneously decided to head back to Texas for the holidays in December after thinking we might be spending the holidays away from family in California. Luckily for us, one of our family members let us stay in their driveway for as long as we needed so we could figure out what we would do next!
We, of course, spent the first month visiting with family & friends, enjoying the holidays, getting sick, and spending NYE together solo (because we were sick lol). Then we spent the next two months with an incredibly long to-do list, and we did almost all of it!
Our spot in our family's driveway in Texas, time with family, and Christmas fun!
We had RV repairs, truck maintenance, vet appointments, doctor/dentist appointments, RV renovations, meal prepping, and the list goes on... So, I wanted to write a blog about our updates—things we changed in our RV, our plans for this year, and kind of just talk about what it’s like being back on the road! I’m going to share another blog of all the places we’ve been in just a few weeks traveling from Texas to Colorado (our destination for now).
We had been wanting to liven up our space a little bit and make it even homier!
So, we added some peel-and-stick backsplash to our kitchen and bathroom. We also added this little storage hutch (from my last RV that was sitting in my dad’s garage, lol) to our bathroom for additional storage.

We swapped out our heavy desk with a desk top from IKEA, as well as the chairs from IKEA. We love how lightweight they are and that they don’t have wheels. Plus, our previous desk and chairs were adding a lot of weight to our slide out—which probably contributed to the walls separating from the floor (*gasp*). So that was another project. We borrowed our neighbor's jack to push the floor of the RV up, took the siding apart, secured the floor of the slide into the supporting studs of the walls, adhered the slide skis back on, and resealed the outside—and by we, I mean Austin, lol (even though the stud thing was my idea so I’m helpful too). *The items linked are similar versions I've found on Amazon where we receive a small affiliate fee if purchased through our links :)

We also changed our overall color scheme to green, added a few plants, and put up some peel-and-stick wallpaper in our bedroom. I love how it all turned out and it honestly brightens up our space so much.

We also emptied out our storage unit—which feels so good to say.
We had been paying around $50/month so we decided we would sell and donate what we could to try to either get a smaller unit (we had a 10x5) or empty it completely. We sold a lot of it, donated a ton, and were able to store the rest with Austin's parents in his childhood home. We're super grateful for that!

As far as our “plans for this year,” we have none...
I mean, not really. Our goal was to make it to western Colorado to see if this is an area we want to live in the future, but other than that, we really don’t know what we’re doing. We’re still pursuing content creation full-time while Austin is still a freelance graphic designer, and, I don’t know, sometimes I think about looking for work around us or something remote again but it’s honestly hard to manage both. If we stop moving, we could get work in the area, but that would mean paying rent at an RV park—which isn’t totally cheap. We also wouldn’t be traveling around as much so we might have less content... It also takes a lot of time to make content, edit YouTube, navigate brand partnership stuff, and work on our other passions! So, all this to say, we’re just two kids trying to figure sh*t out lol.
Austin has a family reunion in the upper peninsula of Michigan that we’ve attended the past 3 years, and we’re considering skipping it to focus on finding our future home-base. And that decision is HARD because we LOVE Michigan and spending time with his extended family, but it’s just so far... So, bleh. Indecision.
The trip to get to western Colorado was NOT an easy one, and the first four days on the road seriously had us questioning our life choices.
We visited Balmorhea State Park which was amazingly beautiful, but the next day we got stuck in a horrible dust storm outside of El Paso. It was seriously scary. After flinching and fearing death for hours, we finally pulled off onto a rest area to wait it out and, of course, there was an abandoned dog sitting by the trash can begging for food. We spent 3 hours—yes 3 hours!!!—trying to catch this dog. We probably would’ve waited out the storm for that long anyways... but yes, I wanted to help the dog. It was just one of those soul-crushing days that really humbles you. It’s not until the next amazing day on the road where everything sort of comes together that you remember why you’re even doing it, haha.

Anyways, we’re back on the road! I’m super happy to be out of Texas, especially as it gets into the 90s and 100s (sorry fam!). We’re trying to keep up with weekly blogs on YouTube so check that out, if it’s something that interests you! Every subscriber means the world to us on this journey and we’re so thankful for you!
We've also added a feature to our site to "buy us a coffee" (or more likely a beer or gas, haha) after some friends asked how they could help us on our journey—any form of support means everything to us :)
Please let us know if you have any questions about RV living below—or just introduce yourself because we’d love to know you! Happy travels <3
